South Forsyth JOI Club

My name is Aditya Bhave and I am the founder and president of the JOI Optimist Club at South Forsyth High School.   Along with the other dedicated club members, I hope to bring out the best in students as well as myself through massive community service projects to better our communities here in Cumming!

Here are some of the activities our club has done since November 11, 2015 when we were chartered:

  • Volunteering at Sunrise Senior Living – Volunteers got the chance to spend the day with the seniors of our community and perform activities such as reading and walking with them.  We even helped to plan a party for the seniors!
  • Change4Georgia Operation Appreciation – Volunteers teamed up with C4G to write and send thank-you letters to the veterans and military officers deployed overseas in many countries around the world.
  • MedShare – Volunteers got the chance to repackage medical supplies and help ship them to third world countries around the world such as the Philippines, Haiti, and Ghana.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities Fundraiser – We collected soda pop tops around the school and community and successfully sent hundreds in order to raise money for underserved families around the country.
  • IHOP Cancer Campaign – We promoted the campaign itself and encouraged customers at IHOP to donate.
  • March of Dimes Fundraising – We raised money for the March of Dimes organization to help fund programs to work towards ending premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality.
  •  Safety Lecture – We had the privilege of having Sgt. Curtis Bradshaw from the Police Department to come to one of our meetings and give a lecture on distracted driving – including reckless driving, texting and driving, and driving under the influence.  Here are some pictures from the meeting:
