Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club Scholarship


This is a one-time $1,000 scholarship.



To provide educational opportunities for worthy qualified students who might otherwise be denied the opportunity for a higher education.



  1. Open to all students who have been a Forsyth County resident for the past two (2) years,
    Member of the current graduating class intending to graduate from a Forsyth County High School, or equivalent,
  2. Attend an accredited college, university, or technical school,
  3. Demonstrate that a financial need exists. Applicant must provide a copy of completed Financial Aid Form (FAFSA) or parent’s 2018-2019 Federal Income Tax return. **
  4. Scholastic ability – demonstrated by (a) grade point average and (b) scores from SAT, ACT or other recognized college testing program.
  5. Demonstrate leadership and good moral character,
  6. Letter of References – at least three (3), one of which must be from school or educator.  Family references are not allowed.
  7. Submit application through school’s guidance counselor.
  8. Homeschool students – mail application directly to Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club, PO Box 111, Cumming GA  30028



A student of the current graduation class who desires to be considered for this scholarship award should apply to the Counselor’s office of the school he or she is attending. The application will be submitted on the “Application for Scholarship Form” and accompanied by a completed “Additional Information Form.” Applications must be received by Monday, March 18, 2019.

The final selection of the student to receive this award will be made by the Scholarship Committee of the Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club. The winners will be announced at Honors Night at the High School where the student attends.

2018 Winners:

JESSICA DREWKE attended Forsyth Central High School.  She will be attending UGA, majoring in Biochemical Engineering and Computer Science.

MORGAN CHAMPION attended North Forsyth High School.  She will be attending Samford University to major in Journalism/Mass Communications and Law.

EMMIE SCATES attended North Forsyth High School.  She will be attending UGA  to study Medicine with a focus in Pediatrics.  

KERRINGTON WITHERSPOON attended West Forsyth High School.  He will be attending either Georgia Tech or Florida Tech to study Aerospace Engineering.

CHLOE SPARWATH attended West Forsyth High School.  She will be attending either UGA, VA or GW and will be studying Political Science & History.

ALYSSA HOOPER attended Forsyth Central High School.  She will be attending the UGA and her field of study will be in Science.

ASHLEY WRIGHT attended Forsyth Central High School.  She will be attending the UGA and will be studying Occupational Therapy and Exercise Science.

BRAYDEN SMITH attended Forsyth Central High School.  He will be attending UGA to major in Pre-Med. 

ALLISON MEHLER attended Forsyth Central High School.  She will be attending UGA and her field of study will be Communication Sciences & Disorders and Speech Pathology.  

KATHERINE PALUMBO attended Pinecrest Academy.  She will be studying Business in college.

DIELIZA KORAQI  attended Lambert High School.  She plans to major in Marketing in college and then attend Law School.

AUSTIN McTIER attended Lambert High School.  He plans to attend Georgia State University to major in Political Science and Philosophy, and then attend University of Georgia Law School to focus on trial advocacy in Criminal Law and Family Law.
